PhD Life: 10 things should be available in your working place

Computers, tools, big working desks, bookshelves, internet connection, power outlet are needed for default. Here are the others:
  1. Whiteboards. Big ones. Or big windows (you can write all over them too). All with warnings that NOBODY SHOULD NEVER TOUCH THEM, OR ERASE ANYTHING WRITTEN ON THEM.
  2. Healthy dry food. You would better skip your meals than leave your coding to buy some meals so you’d better stock up some wheat biscuits, dark chocolates, peanuts, or fruits and yoghurt (if you have fridge).
  3. Lots of drinking water supply. They said dehydrated braincells can’t think.
  4. Distractions. It can be activities, books, toys, music. Or people.
  5. A lot of Post-It. To remind you about things.
  6. Spare sets of keys (room keys, vehicle keys). You’ll lose them at least once a day.
  7. Aspirins. A drawer-ful. Will be needed after you meet your professors/academic advisors.
  8. Yoga mat. During stressful PhD life, yoga would help a lot. Or you can use the mat for sleeping.
  9. Tissue supplies. Emotional breakdown will happen very often. You will cry a lot. Be prepared.
  10. List of people to be killed. And how. (When is not important, the urge will come quite often)
